Mireya Iglesias Ayala is a Senior at San Miguel High School.  She just recently accepted a full ride scholarship to Georgetown University in Washington, DC where she plans to major in Business. This is especially exciting considering she will be the first person in her family to go to college. During her time at San Miguel Mireya has been an active member on Student Council, and currently serves as the Vice President and Director of Activities.  Mireya is also a Student Ambassador, and a member of the National English Honor Society, National Honors Society, National Spanish Honors Society, and Yearbook committee in addition to participating in many other various sports and activities. Through San Miguel’s Corporate Internship Program, she worked at Tucson Electric Power in the Accounting department and currently works at the University of Arizona as a Neurobiology Lab Research Assistant; all while completing her core studies with a 4.39 cumulative GPA.  On May 16th, Mireya gave her commencement speech during graduation as the Valedictorian of San Miguel High School.

“Attending San Miguel is one of the best decisions I have ever made. The question is not, ‘Will I go to college?’ but, ‘Where will I go to college?’ San Miguel has shown what I am capable of,  that hard work pays off, the generosity of people, and San Miguel has shown me, my future. Supporters make our futures a reality. They allow for money to not be an obstacle for families or our future. They stay with us during hard economic times because they see that their investment will be reflected in our futures, in our degrees, in our jobs, and in our families.” explained Mireya.
