Meet the Salvatierra Family

March 01, 2021

Meet the Salvatierra Family: Jonathan, Jose and Angelica all attend Queen of Peace Catholic School (QOP) in Mesa, Arizona and Luis is a graduate of Queen of Peace and now a junior at Mesquite High School in Gilbert. Luis started at the school in 2nd grade and the other three have attended QOP since Pre-K.

Heartbreakingly, the family recently lost their father to cancer and their mom, Natalia is so thankful for having a catholic-based education as a source of strength for the kids during this difficult time. When talking about the community at Queen of Peace, Natalia referenced how it is so much more than a school and the community is like a family. “Last year when we went through out most difficult loss, the entire community of Queen of Peace shared in our deep loss through their prayers and meals. They even held a fundraiser to help us pay for the cost of my husband’s funeral. This opportunity to be part of the community wouldn’t be possible without the Arizona Leadership Foundation scholarship.”

More about the family:
Jonathan is in sixth grade and is passionate about painting, drawing and reading. His favorite subjects in school are history and science. He wants to go to UCLA and study history in hopes of being an archeologist or possibly playing soccer professionally.

Jose is in seventh grade; he loves to play football, baseball and basketball and his favorite classes are math and science. He aspires to attend MIT to learn computer science and programming. Right now, he thinks he would like to pursue a career working for Google or Facebook as a software engineer.

Angelica is in her last year at QOP, as an eighth grader. She participates in volleyball, basketball and is on the cheerleading team. Her favorite subject in school is history. She would like to attend college and study business; she wants to work in cosmetology and own her own business.

Luis is currently a member of the Varsity Soccer team at Mesquite and has been since his freshman year. When he was at QOP he helped lead their soccer team to trophy wins in seventh and eighth grade. He is looking ahead to his life after high school, he would like to start a car detailing and restoration business.

From Queen of Peace Catholic School: Many of our families are deeply rooted here with parents and even grandparents who attended Queen of Peace Catholic School. Most of our families would not be able to attend our school without the financial support from Student Tuition Organizations, like Arizona Leadership Foundation. With ALF’s help and the help of other STO’s we are blessed to have so many wonderful families like the Salvatierra Family here at our school. We are more than just a school; we are a school family!

Queen of Peace Catholic School is an accredited Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade school, located in the Historic District of downtown Mesa. Our school has been assisting families and educating children for 80 years. We are a welcoming, inclusive community that aspires to academic excellence and encourages students to be life-long learners who are Christ-centered and service oriented. We are blessed to have a wonderful staff. Over 75% of our certified staff has a Master’s Degree, and over half of our staff is bilingual.
