Meet the Hilton Family

May 29, 2019

Meet the Hilton family, Dad Nathan is a registered nurse who works in Mesa and Gilbert AZ and his wife Tania is a full-time homemaker and a certified health coach.  The oldest Caleb is in 6th grade, Greyson is in 4th grade and Madelyn the youngest is in 2nd grade.  They all attend Christ’s Greenfield Lutheran School in Gilbert, AZ.

Caleb was diagnosed at two and half years old with Pervasive Development Disorder, which is a form of high functioning autism. In preschool, Caleb was not very verbal however, it was apparent that he was very smart.  In Kindergarten and 1st grade, Caleb did well in school but by the time he started 2nd grade, he started to become very frustrated in class. It was difficult for him to express his needs and the work did not challenge him. The large class size was very noisy and bothered Caleb a lot.  Nathan and Tania realized in 2015 that public school was no longer a good fit for Caleb but they were unsure where to place him. He needed support for his autism but to be challenged as well. Christ’s Greenfield Lutheran School turned out to be the answer.  At CGLS, Caleb was assigned an aid who helped him stay on task but he was also placed in a class where he would be constantly challenged. Caleb has thrived over the last few years at CGLS because of the smaller class size and the ability to support his special needs while still encouraging his growth. He was placed in an advanced math class the last few years, completed three years of Cub Scouts and graduated to Boy Scouts during 2019, competed in his first track and field event and has even appeared in a few of the theater productions. He built his first computer when he was 10 years old with the help of his grandfather and he aspires to a graphic designer when he grows up.

Greyson started Christ’s Greenfield Lutheran school as a first grader in 2016. He was quickly recognized for his passion and love of reading and was placed in an advanced reading program. He also began Cub Scouts this year as a Tiger scout and enjoys the scouting events, derbies and award ceremonies. His hobbies include reading from the moment he wakes up to the time he goes to bed, swimming and riding his bike.

Madelyn is a free spirited, high energy 7-year-old who is always on the go.  She started Christ’s Greenfield Lutheran School preschool. Now, as a 2nd grader, Maddy is looking forward to her introduction to sports, specifically track. She is energetic and loves her teachers and classmates. Her hobbies include swimming, riding her bike and crafts. Madelyn says she wants to be a police officer when she grows up.

The family has stated that if it weren’t for support from the Arizona Leadership Foundation, they would not have been able to have all of their children attend Christ’s Greenfield Lutheran School for the last four years. “CGLS has been such a blessing to our children and our family and it’s because of Arizona Leadership Foundation that we are able to attend.”
