Low-income families get $750K in scholarships for private school
November 1, 2017
Thanks to a partnership between the Arizona Leadership Foundation and Western Refining, $750,000 is being diverted to students from low-income families in Yuma in the form of scholarships to local private schools. A company that operates refineries as well as convenience stores and gas stations in the Southwest, Western Refining is partnering with the Arizona Leadership Foundation to participate in the state’s corporate tax credit program.
A School Tuition Organization cannot award, restrict, or reserve scholarships solely on the basis of a donor’s recommendation. A taxpayer may not claim a tax credit if the taxpayer agrees to swap donations with another taxpayer to benefit either taxpayer’s own dependent. (A.R.S. 43-1089)
